Throughout my childhood, I was exposed to music by my Dad constantly; listening to 80’s hair metal while fishing, hearing him play his drums almost everyday, and going to concerts until my ears rang. His love of music inspired me but, being the stubborn child I was, I wasn’t about to learn the drums and make him too proud (pause for laughter).

Instead, I picked up a bass guitar.

Pictured above is me with my first bass guitar; a Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass. It took me months to save up enough from my paper route to buy this bad boy and I still have it to this day.  I played it almost every day while in middle and high school and I got pretty good at playing songs by my favorite bands; Rush, Tool, Muse, RHCP, and a few others.

But like most things you do when you’re young, I stopped playing as frequently once I graduated high school; I hadn’t picked up a bass guitar for well over a year. That was until I ruptured my Achilles tendon in the summer of 2018 and suddenly found myself with a tonne of free time…

After a year of trying to regain the dexterity I had in high school, I moved to a new house that was equipped with a music room and a few music people.

It was then that I started to push my musical understanding even farther: song writing. My roommate Isaac and I jammed often over the last year, him on the drums and me on the bass. But recently I’ve found the bass guitar limiting in the music we’re able to create, so I tried my hand at guitar. There are enough similarities that I can get by but I’ve realized that there is a lot more to playing guitar than bass (like the two extra strings).

So that is the motivation for me choosing guitar for my Free Inquiry! My intense passion for music paired with my experience playing music for well over a decade has led me here and I hope I can learn just a little bit about playing the guitar.
